Jan Porter

January 22, 1948 — December 31, 2024

Jan G. Kirton Warrick Porter of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024 while surrounded by family.

Afflicted by Polio at a young age, Jan never let that slow her down. Throughout her life she wore many hats, she was a bookkeeper, stay at home mom, brownie troop leader and even a little league baseball coach. She was a successful business woman, founding Sunshine Daycare and Kindergarten. Jan was very social and enjoyed spending time with her many friends in Elmira, Horseheads, Lake Bonin and Florida. Jan was highly creative and had many talents such as knitting, arts and crafts, decorating, fashion, and baking her famous sugar cookies. Jan loved nothing more than doting on her husband and spending time with her family, rocking her title as “Nana” to many.

She was preceded in death by: her father Gordon H. Kirton; her brother Roger Kirton; and her grandson, William H. "Wills" Warrick II.

She is survived by: her loving husband Jim Porter; her children -  Jeanine Warrick Pautz, William Warrick, and Michael (Jenny) Warrick; step-daughter Jessica (Scott) Paquette; her grandchildren - G. Parker Warrick, Maisey Pautz, Darien Warrick, Hannah Warrick, Jadyn Warrick, Isabelle Warrick, Madeline Warrick, Amelia Warrick, Michael Warrick, and Aspen Paquette; her great-grandson Luca; her brother Jim (Nancy) Kirton; her sister Krissy Kirton; and her life-long dearest friend Lynne Andrews.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. As a little girl, Jan was forced to spend a significant portion of her childhood hospitalized at Schriners Children’s Hospital in Springfield Massachusetts, during which time she met Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude’s. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Schriners Children’s New England, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
