James E. Swithers

James E. Swithers Southport Resident age 57 of Sycamore Street Elmira, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital Sayre, PA after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. He was born January 26, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA the son of Stanley and Margaret (Ames) Swithers. His father, Stanley and his son, James D. Swithers, predeceased him. He is survived by his loving mother, Margaret; brother, Robert (June) Swithers of Pine City, NY; sister, Janet Swithers of Elmira, NY; beloved children, Kelly VanGalder of Claverack, NY; Greg Swithers of Fort Sill, OK; Ashley Swithers of Claverack, NY; grandson, Parker VanGalder; very close friends, Arlene (Jack) Tobey of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. James was a former employee of the NYS Department of Corrections working at the Elmira, Reformatory for many faithful and dedicated years. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Sunday, April 14, 2002 from 1 to 3 PM. Funeral Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours. (3 PM) The Reverend William Wells will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
