Runyan, James A. age 67 of Pine City, NY The son of the late Allen and Winifred Lutzie Runyan. He was born in Cuba, NY November 12th, 1934. Jim is survived by his wife Jane, together sharing 42 loving years, and two beloved sons Greg Runyan of Girdwood, AK and Charles (Susanne) Runyan of Caton, NY. Jim is also survived by a sister Shirley(Robert) Griffin of Union Springs, NY Brother Larry(Karen) Runyan of Cuba, NY Sister in law: Jean Davey of Rochester, NY and many nieces,nephews and a host of wonderful friends.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Thursday, August 15th, 2002 1:00PM to 3:00PM and 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral and committal prayers will be shared at the conclusion of the calling hours at 8:00PM.Graveside services will be held privately at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.The Reverend Janice Fitzgerald will officiate. Jim was a dedicated family man. He was an avid hunter, fishermen, camper. His 35year dedication andpersonal sacrifice to the betterment of athletics and education to the Elmira City School District is nothing short of amazing. His skills asDirector of Athletics, Physical Education and Health for the Elmira City School District resulted in many awards and recognitions of his efforts, includinghis election into the Section 4 Hall of Fame. He was very proud to be the President of the NewYork State Athletic Administrators Assoc. and President of the New York State Assoc. of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, and President of Section 4, and Chairmanof the Sullivan Trail Conference, and United States Army Veteran. After many years in athletics he found a great peace in retirement with his wife and best friend Jane. Together the where very active in Rving. They shared in membership with the Mighty Niagara Roos Motor home Club. Crossing the country east to west and north to south.Including two trips to Alaska to visit their son Greg, as they did when they were young in 1966. Their wall of their home has sense been adorned with a monster lake trout Jim caught in the Yukon. This lunker also shares the wall with two of New York States Finest White Tail deer including an award winning 12pt. Buck. Jim loved all sports and was a tough competitor. He served on the board of Education in recent years and was made Chemung County Legislative Repetitive to the Fish and wildlife management board and currently was held as chairman.His family and friends will miss his humor, generosity, and passion for living.
