James Errett Mikel

James E. Mikel, age 67 of Elmira, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. James was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine Rhode; and brother, David Mikel. James is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jean Mikel; children, Andrew (Gina) Mikel, Melinda Gregg, Lisa (Steve) Usselman and Kimberly (Shannon) Mikel-O’Connor; grandchildren, Andrew II, Christina and Mikha Mikel, Ryan and Devon Gregg, Jackie (Chris) Jung and Stevie Usselman; great-grandson, Amelo Gregg; father, James (Del) Mikel; siblings, Jeff (Stacey) Mikel, Mari (Bill) Keefe, Nancy (Harv) Rhode, Mark (Sue) Rohde; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. James never met a person he didn’t like. He enjoyed his conversations with his friends and even strangers. His family was his first love that drove all he did in life. He enjoyed traveling with Jean and his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and best friend who will be missed by all. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY from 1 pm to 4 pm with a funeral service to immediately follow at 4 pm. Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
