James E. Janeski

James E. Janeski, Jr., 77, of Elmira, NY, passed away on November 11, 2023 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.

Born on January 27, 1946, in Elmira, NY, he was the son of James and Katherine (Branch) Janeski. He was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy.

On November 6, 1965, at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, he married Karen (Hradzira), who preceded him in death on December 30, 2018.

JJ was a City of Elmira Police Officer for 20 years, retiring in 1989. After retiring, he worked at Bulkhead Hardware in Southport.

He enjoyed working on his old cars, traveling, and spending time with his family.

JJ is survived by his four sons: Ronald (Amanda) Janeski, Annapolis, MD, Jeffrey (Tari) Janeski, Pine City, NY, Thomas (Margo) Janeski, Elmira, NY, and Joseph Janeski, Spartanburg, SC, grandchilden: Tristan, Ava, Kyle, Logan, Lucas, Lexi, MaryJordan, and WallaceAnn.

He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, daughter Christine, sister Loretta, and brother Michael.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the continuous loving care they gave to JJ.

Friends and family are invited to a public visitation on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 10AM -12PM at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave, Elmira, NY, 14904, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira, NY, 14904, beginning at 1PM, with Father Rick Farrell officiating. Burial and committal service will be held in the St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
