James E. Smith

Age73, of Elmira, NY went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2002. James was born September 8, 1929 in Hornell, NY the son of Robert and Gladys Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta D. Smith, granddaughter, Chelsea Smith, brothers; Robert C. & William Smith. James is survived by his loving step-daughter; Tina (Roger) Columbine of Elmira, NY, step-son; Louis (Abigail) Smith of Wellsburg, NY, grandchildren; Michael, Sarah, Jared, Storm, Justin, Jorden, and Jacob, sister; Virginia Smith of SC, brothers; Louis G. (Nancy) Smith of Elmira, NY, Raymond (Nina) Smith of TN. He was an L.P.N. in the skilled nursing unit of St. Joseph?s Hospital until 1997, when he retired. James was an avid hunter, fisherman, Yankees? fan and Buffalo Bills? fan. He served in the United States Army in Okinawa, Japan. James was very proud of becoming an L.P.N. and enjoyed the work that he did. After the loss of his wife Roberta, whom he missed dearly, he withdrew himself from most social events. James loved his family especially his grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY, on Saturday, December 28, 2002 from 10:00 to 11:00 PM, with Funeral and Committal Services there at 11 AM.
