Age 88, of Hillcrest Road, Elmira, NY passed away Sunday, January 5, 2003 unexpectedly at home. He was born May 12, 1914 in Warren, PA, the son of the late Otis and Alberta (Alexander) Boyd. ?Jack?, as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lea Boyd; sister, Katherine Teeter. He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen (Finch) Boyd; granddaughter, Meagan Elizabeth Simpson of Dover, Delaware; grandson, Greg (Marianne) George of Winter Haven, FL; sister, Virginia Johe of Johnson City, NY; niece, Janice Webster of Rochester, NY; great nephew, Jon (Karen) Webster of Rochester, NY and great niece, Nila Webster of Boston, MA; special friends, Joseph and Ro Madero and their sons, Michael, Marco, and Mario; along with several nieces and nephews. ?Jack? was a graduate of Delhi University in Delhi, NY. ?Jack? founded and operated Curley?s Chicken House from 1955 until he retired in 1988 after 33 years of faithful and dedicated service. ?Jack? appreciated the dedication and hard work of Scott Shaw, the current owner for bringing back ?Jack?s? original Curley?s. He had many talents and a heart of gold. He was always giving a hand in greeting or in helping others. During the flood in 1972, he literally fed thousands of people that lost their homes. Over the years, he was generous with his time and money although many did not know their benefactor. ?Jack? loved his land; he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed feeding his deer and fishing in his own trout stream. ?Jack? was stricken while feeding his beloved wildlife. He loved his Kubota tractor, with which he brushhogged over 500 acres of land. He also spent countless hours on his Steiner Tractor Mower trimming his property. His life force was felt by all whenever he entered a room. He supported the Tanglewood Nature Center and donated land to them as well. At the family?s request there will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service honoring ?Jack? and celebrating his life will be held in the Hillcrest Baptist Church on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be directed to the Tanglewood Nature Center P. O. Box # 117 Elmira, NY 14903 or to the American Cancer Society P. O. Box # 7 E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
