Irma June Byrd

June 15, 1918 — November 10, 2002

Age 84 of Pennsylvania Ave. passed away Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Elmira, NY. She was born June 15, 1918 in Boonville, NY the daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes (Bohling) Turner. Irma was preceded in death by her loving husband, John I. Byrd Sr. in 1997; sister, Muriel Wedge and brother, Henry Turner. She is survived by her beloved children, son, John Irving Byrd Jr. and his fiancée Janet Landsborough; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom McCarthy; grandchildren, Ryan (Kate) Byrd, Caitlin Byrd, Sean (Michelle) McCarthy, and Brendan McCarthy; great grandchildren, Connor Thomas McCarthy and Nolan Patrick Byrd; caring and supportive sister, Kathryn Alling; nieces and nephews who also loved, cared and supported Irma, Cynthia (Charles) Friar, Becky (Harry) Slocum, Debbie (Frank) Palmer, Tracy Rick Bosworth, Andrew (Debbie) Alling, Kevin Alling, Maureen (Robert) Tackabury, Gloria (Wayne) Carr, Julia (David) Curry, Mary Beth (Ken) Masker and Nelson (Debbie) Wedge; along with her loving cat and companion, ?Lady?. In her earlier years, Irma enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors with her husband, John. She was an immaculate house keeper as well as an excellent cook. Often she would cook elaborate meals just to share them with others. She had a great love for children and animals too. At her request there will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at the Lebanon Federated Church in Lebanon, NY. The family can?t express enough thanks and gratitude to Deborah Martin and all the staff at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center who loved and cared for their mother. We will always remember how you treated us like we were your own family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc.
