Horseheads

Howard A. Olin, Jr., 81, of Horseheads, passed away on October 4, 2023, at the Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his loving daughters by his side.

Born on October 2, 1942, in Elmira, NY, he was the son of Howard Sr. and Eda (Lovell) Olin.  He graduated from Horseheads High School, class of 1961.

On August 19, 1961, in Elmira, Howard married Joyce (Osborne).   They were married for 55 years. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2016.

He was a machinist at Hardinge Bro., Inc. for 40.5 years, retiring in 2002.

Howard enjoyed slalom water-skiing, fishing, going to Waneta Lake to the family cottage and driving their boat, shooting fireworks for Young Explosives, was Benchrest Range Master for the Painted Post Field and Stream Club.  He enjoyed watching Nascar, Perry Mason, and the Price is Right.  He was a life member of the Corning Elks Club as an Inner Guard,  the Elmira Jaycees, and the Sons of the American Legion Post # 1208 in Wayne, NY. He was an avid second rights enthusiast and supported the Military and Veterans.

He is survived by his three daughters: Renee Olin, of Horseheads, Terri Olin, of Horseheads, Lynne (Kevin) Wellerman, of Tappahannock, VA, many cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, sister Patricia Cowan Lamm, and son-in-law Kevin Wellerman.

Friends are invited to a public visitation on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 12PM to 2PM and then from 4PM to 6PM at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave, Elmira, NY 14904. The Corning Elks Club will officiate the Funeral Service Ritual. Howard's celebration of life will be on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 11AM at Olthof Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Schooley of Higher Hope Church as officiant. Burial will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
