Gordon Charles Samson

HORSEHEADS – Gordon Charles Samson, 84, of Horseheads, died on Friday, October 28, 2022. Born on October 12, 1938 in Elmira, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen A. (MacDougall) Samson.

He was a 1956 graduate of Horseheads High School and earned an Associates in Building Construction from SUNY Delhi in 1958.

On May 18, 1963, he married, Gloria J. Hartman at the Horseheads First United Methodist Church.

In 1962, he went to work for the NYSDOT. He retired as a Highway Engineer in 1995 after 33 years of service.

Gordon was extremely proud of his heritage and for his work on the family farm. He was a very hard worker, if something needed to be done, it was done. Throughout his life he was part of several organizations, The National Grange Association, Horseheads Elks Club, Horseheads Snowmobile Club and Mason Society. He was also a past President, Treasurer, and longtime Caretaker of the Ridge (Vary) Cemetery in the Town of Veteran. For 21 years, he proudly volunteered for Meals on Wheels of Chemung County.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stuart Samson and his sister-in-law, Joanne Samson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria J. Samson of Horseheads; brother Walter R. Samson and sister-in-law Jean Samson; his sons, Bruce (Mary-Jo) Samson of Albany, Troy (Paula) Samson of Honeoye Falls, Kevin (Ruth) Samson of Elmira; his grandchildren, Megan (Michael) Dorsey, Jena (Troy) Trent, Nicole (Isaac) Puglisi, Leah Samson, Shane Samson, Audrey Samson, Brandon (Mary) Warren, Mckenna (Adam) Austin; his great grandchildren, Robert Warren and Jackson Austin.

Services will be private and at the convenience of his family. Burial will take place in Ridge (Vary) Cemetery.
