ELMIRA HEIGHTS – Gilbert R. Kennedy, Jr, 71 of Elmira Heights, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.Born onJanuary 2, 1950, he was the son of the late Gilbert R. and Frances Leah (Smithyman) Kennedy, Sr.On August 19, 1972, he married Donna Marie Hart in the chapel at Christ’s United Methodist Church in Elmira. In 2003, Gilbert retired from the Elmira City School District.He had an extensive coin collection.He also enjoyed camping with his family.More than anything, he cherished the time that he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Frederick Kennedy, Francis Kennedy, Kathy Bedsworth and Jacqueline Kennedy. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Donna Marie Kennedy of Elmira Heights; his daughters, Tammy (Dyshell) Butler of Syracuse, Salina (Todd) Martin of Corning; his son, Robert (Sandra) Kennedy of Elmira Heights; his grandchildren, Eric Davis, Camisha Davis, Samantha Kennedy, Nathan Kennedy; and his great-grandchildren, Aurora Davis, Nassic Yisrael, Ness Yisrael and Isani Tookes; his brother, Daniel (Lillian) Kennedy of Alabama; and his sisters, Sylvia Kennedy of Bath, NY, Christine (Jack) Stanton of Horseheads, and Elnora Kennedy of Waverly. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
