Gerald N. Strong, Jr.

SOUTHPORT – Gerald N. Strong, Jr., 78, of Southport, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Born on February 8 1944 in Elmira, NY, he was the son of the late Gerald N. and Mildred (Towner) Strong, Sr. Gerald was a 1962 graduate of Elmira Free Academy.

On October 26, 1963, he married the love of his life, Sherrill Hutchings.

In 2000, Gerald retired from Hilliard after more than 36 years of service.  He later went on to work as a crossing guard for the Town of Southport, NY.

Gerald was an avid sportsman and he shared his love of hunting and fishing with his children. He was a family man and prided himself in his growing family that he loved unconditionally.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael; Brothers, Jack and Rick; Sister, Carol; Best Friends, Chuck Ellis and Jim VanHouten.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherrill (Hutchings) Strong; Daughters, Yvonne and Tina; Son, Daniel;  7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; Godson, David; Sister, Susan; Brothers, Jim, and Joe; Brother-in-law, Craig; Sister-in-law, Kim; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, which he loved with all his heart.
