Genevieve (Hewitt) McWhorter, a native of Mosherville, PA and long-time resident of Pine City, NY passed away on August 8, 2024. She was 98 years old.
“Gen” was a proud home maker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She expressed her love through cooking and baking. Gen was especially well-known for her fudge, pies, and jellies. She was an avid card player and a member of a card club for years. Many hours were spent around the dining room table laughing and playing “Scat” during family gatherings. Playing cards was also a favorite way for her to spend time with her sisters on “Sisters’ Day.” Gen was a founding member of Pine City Baptist Church, where she could often be found volunteering for Election Day Dinners and Bazars. She cherished the time she spent with her beloved church community.
Throughout her life, Gen loved spending time with her family. In their early years, she and her husband “Mac” traveled across most of the ‘Lower 48’ with young sons, Mitch and Randy. Camping and visiting National Parks along the way. These family adventures filled her with joyful memories that she often shared. More recently, she loved making new memories with her great-grandkids going to the casino for the first time, taking trips to the ice cream shop, and baking cookies with them.
Gen was a remarkable lady who lived a long, beautiful life filled with love and joy. She will be missed dearly.
Gen was preceded in death by: her parents – Walter and Lulabelle (McLane) Hewitt; her beloved husband Vernet “Mac” McWhorter; her son Mitchel McWhorter; her grandson Shawn McWhorter; and her siblings – Kenneth Hewitt, Myrtle Dunkleburger, Grace Balmer, and Beverly DeWitt.
She is survived by: her son Randall L. McWhorter; her grandchildren – Miranda Rice and husband Ryan, and Randall B. McWhorter, and their mother Linda McWhorter; her great-grandchildren – Alissa Rice, Jordan Rice, Christopher Rice, Easton Rice, Cullen McWhorter, Liam McWhorter, Caleb McWhorter, Lukas McWhorter, and Sheldon McWhorter; and granddaughter-in-law Wendy McWhorter.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue. A graveside service will follow immediately at 2:15 PM at Fitzsimmons Cemetery at the corner of Maple Avenue and Cedar Street in Southport, NY.
