Gary Alan Galpin

August 28, 1960 — April 29, 2024

Elmira - Gary Alan Galpin, aged 63, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Gary was born on August 28, 1960, in Elmira, NY, son of William Aden Galpin and JoAn M. (Park) Galpin. He was married to the love of his life, Tracy L. McDonald-Pazzaglia on October 31, 2002. Gary was a 1978 graduate of the original Southside High School, and was a life-long Elmira resident.

Gary served four years in the US Air Force as a MP and obtained the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1983. The majority of Gary's working years were with ECSD and Renko's. He was an avid golfer, bowler and dart player. Gary loved baseball and was a dyed in the wool New York Yankee fan. He enjoyed watching and listening to comedians and had an enthusiastic sense of humor. With his own sense of tough love Gary always had his family close to heart, and in his way would always make sure to let you know that you were loved.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife Tracy; father William Aden Galpin; grandparents - William Etman and Viola Galpin, and Wilbur and Katherine Park;  uncles Lawrence Galpin, Michael Galpin, and Fred Park; and aunts Mary (Galpin) Haygood, Debbie Galpin, and Char Galpin.

He is survived by his mother JoAn (Park) Galpin; sons - Aden Galpin and Jack (Amanda Roof) Galpin; grandson Rhoen Galpin; step-children - Benjamin Gregory and Melissa Pazzaglia; brothers - Robert (Kimmy) Galpin and Scott Whitman; sisters Randi Delaney, Dana Galpin-Whitman, Ronda Earl, Lynn (Larry) McBride and Laura (Chris) Tressler; his nieces and nephews - Gerald, Nick, Linzee, Joel, Logan, Katherine, Shayna, Star, Lela, Savana, and Luke; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special uncle and dear friend Marty Galpin.

Friends and family are inviting to calling hours on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904. His urn will be laid to rest in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in Elmira at a later date.
