Brickwedde, Fred J. ?Fritz? Remington Rand Retiree Age 81 of West Second Street Elmira, NY went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 25, 2001 peacefully at the Corning Hospital. He was born June 21, 1920 in Elmira, the son of the late Frederick and Katherine (Conley) Brickwedde. Childhood friends of 77 years and married for the past 27 years, his wife Rebecca survives him; along with daughter, Rebecca Mendola of Corning, NY; granddaughter, Whitney Mendola also of Corning, NY; nephew, Tom (Kate) Cole of Derry City, Northern Ireland; cousin, Tom Stapleton of Elmira, NY; close friends, David and Valerie Austin of Elmira, NY; along with a host of several other close friends. ?Fritz? as everyone affectionately knew him, retired from Remington Rand after 30 years of faithful and dedicated service. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving his country from 1943-1945 during WW II in New Guinea. Fred was a member of the American Legion Bentley Post # 443. After retiring from the Remington Rand, ?Fritz? was self-employed in true ?Rube Goldberg? style as a ?jack of all trades?. He was a life-long Communicant of St. Mary?s Church and was a Minister of Hospitality at the church as well. He will be missed dearly and will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. Mary?s Church 224 Franklin Street Elmira at 10:00 AM the Reverend Richard Farrell will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in St. Peter and Paul?s Cemetery. A ?Candle of Memory? may be lit in Fred?s name at www.olthof.com
