Florence Haig

Haig, Florence Age 85, passed away Monday, November 26, 2001 at St. Joseph?s Hospital after receiving exceptional and loving care from all the staff and physicians. Florence was born on July 9th, 1916 in New York City.She is survived by her brothers; George Haig of Elmira, NY, Richard Haig and his wife Jeanne of Danby, NY, nephews; Dan Haig and wife Dorothy, Peter Haig and wife Jeanne, Jeff Haig and wife Sylvianne, nieces; Martha Brett and husband Steve, Anna Hovanec and husband Mike; and great-nieces and nephews; Valerie, Daniel, Jonathan, Lucas, Jessica and Liana.Florence graduated from Hunter College High School, Barnard College, and she earned her Master?s Degree from Union College and NYU.She then taught at high schools in Rushville, NY, Madrid, NY, Seneca Falls, NY and in Nichols, NY.Florence also taught at the old Elmira Free Academy and at Corning Community College.During World War II, she was an Air Raid Warden on the Canadian boarder near Madrid, NY.Friends and family are invited to gather for a memorial service at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904 on Wednesday November 28, 2001 at 7 pm.Anyone wishing may light a candle of memory at www.olthof.com.
