Elsie M. Russo

SOUTHPORT - Elsie M. Russo, 93, of Southport, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2023.  Born on October 8, 1929 in New Albany, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Hazel (Lewis) Cheney.

On June 28, 1953, she married Michael A. Russo in Fishkill, NY.

Elsie was a homemaker and she loved to sew, garden and bake.  She was known for her homemade jellies and for being a neighborhood mom.  More than anything, she cherished the time that she shared with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Michael A. Russo; her son, Joseph Russo; her siblings, Marian Ewanyk, Betty Carpenter, Robert Cheney; as well as many in-laws.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Russo of Elmira; her daughters, Marie (Steven) Sampson of Elmira, Kathryn (Robert) Kerr of Deltona, FL, Theresa Holden of Pine City; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Priscilla Kinkaid of Kennesaw, GA; her brother-in-law, Alan Carpenter of Elmira; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her cat, Buffy.

Friends may call from 12-1 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue in Elmira.  A service will follow at 1 pm at the funeral home.  Rite of Committal will take place in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Elmira.
