Elaine E. Stewart

June 28, 1933 — October 19, 2023

Elaine E. Stewart, 90, of Pine City, NY, passed away on October 19, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.

Born on June 28, 1933, Elaine grew up on her family sheep farm “on the swale” in South Canisteo, and was the daughter of George E. and Elizabeth H. (Loper) Russell. Elaine was a graduate of Canisteo High School- class of 1951.

Elaine attended Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo receiving her RN Diploma and later received a Bachelor's degree in Human Services at Elmira College.

In 1956, she married William Stewart, a fellow classmate at Canisteo High School. After their marriage, they lived in several places due to Bill’s work and lived in Elmira
before moving to Carlisle, PA, and Dillsburg, PA. Their last move brought them back to the Elmira area to live near daughter and son-in-law Rhoda and Jack Lewis.

As a nurse, she worked in the OR and in Behavioral Health at Arnot Ogden and Carlisle Hospital, Carlisle PA.

She loved gardening, bird and butterfly watching, sewing, decorating her home, and antiquing as well as spending time with family and especially her grand and great-grandchildren.

Elaine is survived by her husband Bill, daughters Annette (Rich) Morrison and Rhoda (Jack) Lewis, grandchildren Aaron (Ashley) Lewis, Megan (Josh) Garner, and Ian Morrison, great-grandchildren Jared, Caleb, Leanne Lewis; Judd, Anson, and Eve Garner, siblings Edgar Russell, Barb Russell, and Don Russell, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lois Mattison, and brother George E. "Bud" Russell, Jr.

The family would like to thank the CareFirst staff for their loving care of Elaine since February 2023.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo, NY.

Elaine's family has entrusted her care to Olthof Funeral Home, Inc.
