Edna Mae Wood

April 2, 1932 — January 3, 2018

Edna Mae Wood Age 85, daughter of the late Richard Jones & Ellen Arrandale-Jones, was born on April 2, 1932. Edna Mae graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1950 & earned a Bachelor's of Science & Mathematics degree from Elmira College in 1954. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Edwin F. Wood, in May of 1955. This union was blessed with four children. Edwin preceded her in death on June 13, 1998. Edna Mae was an active member of the North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, serving as a Trustee, Deacon, Session Member & also a Christian Education Director. She was presently a member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Elmira. She taught high school mathematics in Scio, NY. She also was a substitute teacher in various schools. Edna Mae spent many years working at Capabilities Inc., in Elmira, NY & the Chemung County Department of Social Services. Her Christian life was full of love & energy & her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life on earth Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her sister, Mrs. Marilyn Lynough of Elmira, NY & children: Cynthia Wood of Merritt Island, FL, Stephen Wood of Elmira, NY, William Wood of Gillett, PA, and James Wood of Unadilla, NY; Grandchildren; Joseph Szczech of Merritt Island FL, Paul Szczech of Gillett PA, Cody Wood of Elmira, NY, Justin Wood of Elmira, NY, Paul Wood of Cobleskill, NY Jonathon Wood of Unadilla, NY & Emily Wood of Unadilla, NY. Great grandchild: Kaitlyn Williams of Merritt Island, FL. Memorial Service is to be held at the New Beginnings Church on E. Miller Street on Saturday, January 13, at 2PM. Donations can be made in her memory to the New Beginnings United Methodist Church, 300 E. Miller Street, Elmira, NY 14904, or to The Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
