After a long, productive life, Dr. Earle G. Ridall died on November 2, 2004 at age 97.Born April 21, 1907 in Elmira, NY, Dr. Ridall spent his life unselfishly caring for his family, his patients, his community, and his world.Dr. Ridall was predeceased by his mother, Mary Griff Ridall, stepmother Winifred Drake Ridall, father Frank A. Ridall, brother Frank H. Ridall, sisters Isabel Ridall and Katherine Vincent, brother-in-law William Vincent.He was also predeceased by his daughter, Eleanor Slocum, granddaughter Sarah Slocum Hamley, nephews Ben and Paul Vincent, and sons-in-law, Tom Henry and Bill Davis.He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Margaret Arbuthnot Ridall, daughters Betsy Henry, Peg Davis, Dr. Amy L. Ridall, and son Ted Ridall (Sue), grandchildren Jeffrey Slocum (Melissa), Susan Fowler (David), and Bernadette Ridall Gordon (Josh), greatgrandson Gabriel Slocum, and niece Martha Vincent Henry.Dr. Ridall was a graduate of Southside High School, attended Allegheny College and graduated from the University of Buffalo, and The University of Buffalo Medical School.As an ear, eye, nose, and throat specialist, he served in the US Army Air Corps, stationed at Barksdale Field in Shreveport, LA during World War II.Returning to Elmira he was in private practice for over 35 years.Earle was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International, a 33rd Degree Mason, Royal Order of Scotland, and was a past potentate of the Shrine, Kalurah Temple.In 1962, he shared his surgical skills with the people of Peru for several months with the hospital ship Hope.It was his request that private services be held at the convenience of the family.Those wishing to remember Earle, may make a contribution to Project Hope, 255 Carter Hall Lane, Millwood, VA 22646-0255 or the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Foundation, 600 Roe Avenue, Elmira, NY 14905-9984.Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com .
