Dorothy Derenzo Ames

Dorothy DeRenzo Ames, age 96, passed away at Saint Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility on February 13, 2024.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary DeRenzo, her husband John “Link” Ames, and her daughter Mary Elaine Davis.

She is survived by many friends and family who hopefully will carry on her legacy of kindness and service to others.

Dorothy was a woman of deep faith and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Elmira, which she loved dearly. In her retirement, she dedicated countless hours of volunteering for her church. Her devotion to loved ones had no limits. Her home was a gathering place filled with a lot of laughter and shared memories. She always had the remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel welcomed and loved.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility for the love and compassionate care they gave Dorothy during her stay.

It was Dorothy’s wish to be waked in Saint Mary’s Church. Family and friends attended calling hours on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Saint Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY 14904 from 9:00 AM until her funeral mass began at 10:00 AM, conducted by Father Scott Kubinski. She was interred at Saint Peter and Paul’s cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Patient Fund, 555 Saint Joseph’s Blvd, Elmira, NY14901.
