Donald Morgan Walker

March 28, 1929 — October 9, 2022

HORSEHEADS - Donald Morgan Walker, 93, passed away on October 9, 2022. Don proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.  He was a devoted fan of all the New York sports teams, especially the Yankees and Buffalo Bills. He secretly rooted for the Mets, but don’t tell Mary.

He worked for the DL & W Railroad, Erie Lackawanna and eventually retired from Conrail.

Don loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Catherine Creek and Opening Day were synonymous. And a stop at Woody’s Tavern  brought stories of “the one that got away!”.  Dipping for smelt was a summer night’s joy for all his kids, and the neighborhood children, who would gobble them up as fast as Mary could fry ‘em!

Fall would arrive and Don was out calling in turkeys and hunting deer with his bow.  Opening day of gun season, he could be found with Tommy Nelson and the Bury’s on their property at Goodhue Lake.  He’d always get one for the freezer!

He meticulously took pride and joy in maintaining his yard and constantly fought those pesky squirrels over the tomatoes in his garden.

He was born on March 28, 1929, to Homer Walker and Frances Morgan Walker.  In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Leland and Gerald; his first wife Mary Gibbs Walker, daughter Doris, and son Jack; his second wife, Pam Walker. He was also predeceased by lifelong fishing and hunting friends Orrin Spencer, Billy Gibbs, Raymond Bury, and Joe Sheleman.

Don is survived by his loving daughters, Donna (Judd) Sullivan and their children, Joshua (Jamie), Kenneth (Ashley) and Ryan (Courtney); Joan (David) Dolaway and their children, Thomas (Elizabeth) and Derrike. Daughter-in-law, Donna Kerbein Walker-Hulben, and her children Jackie (Greg)and Jeremy. Doris’s son, Rhett Brandt. Great-grandchildren too numerous to name. Lifelong railroad friend, John Dickerson and forever hunting and fishing partner, Thomas Nelson.

He was very proud of his daughters and all their accomplishments in their lives.

Don’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Arnot Ogden 5D nurses, aides and staff for their care and professionalism during this difficult time.
