Dolores J. Yorke

On Thursday, February 29, 2024 Dolores (Orr) Yorke passed away after fighting a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born to Clyde and Bertha Orr on March 13, 1933, and was raised and attended school in Elmira, NY. At the time of her death she was ninety.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Yorke in 2018; sisters - Wanda (Don) Wolcott of Florida,  Thelma (Robert) TenBroeck of Montour Falls, NY, and  Betty J. (Ray) Pease of Horseheads, NY; and brother Donald C. (Rita) Orr of Cairo, NY.

She is survived by: her sons Mark Yorke and Thomas (Linda) Yorke; three grandchildren - Brian (Cari) Yorke, Kristina (Dan) Brunette and Jesse Yorke; one great-grandchild Schyler Yorke; sisters-in-law Rita Orr of Cairo, NY, and Jackie Yorke of Elmira, NY; along with many nieces and nephews.

Dolores and her husband started their married lives together on the southern border in Cotulla,  TX  in 1962. They moved to several locations over the years to include Youngstown, NY, Alburg and Beecher Falls, VT, Seattle, WA, and Ponce, Puerto Rico.   When it was time to retire Dolores chose, home, Elmira,  where they lived until 2018.

Dolores enjoyed quilting, gardening, visits with her children and grandchildren and their trips to the local Casino. Dolores will always be remembered for her wonderful home cooked meals and her clown collection in many shapes and sizes.

In remembrance of Dolores’ life, memorial donations in her honor may be directed to the Southport Fire Department, 1001 Carl St., Elmira, NY 14904.

The family would like to thank Absolut Care of Three Rivers and the staff for the support received and the compassion shown to Dolores while she was a resident in their facility.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue in Elmira, NY.  A private family burial at Fitzsimmons Cemetery will follow at a later date.
