Dawn E. Thomas

ELMIRA - Dawn E. Thomas, 58, of Elmira, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Rochester General Hospital. Born on December 21, 1964, in Elmira, she was the daughter of Bertha E. (Morgan) Oppenheim and the late Richard E. Oppenheim.

On August 1, 1992, she married the love of her life, Michael A. Thomas.

For more than 15 years, she worked for Dr. Steven Salsburg as a medical secretary and later went on to work as a secretary for the First Presbyterian Church of West Elmira. Most of all she loved selling Pampered Chef.

Dawn loved crafting. She was very community minded and was involved in the Elmira City School District PFO and Project Graduation. She also touched many girls lives through her continued support with Girl Scouts of America. Whenever attending an event or fundraiser, she was always the last to leave. More than anything, she cherished the time that she shared with her husband, children and pets.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Lola (Chappell) Oppenheim and her maternal grandparents, Leslie and Mildred (Brown) Morgan; father and mother-in-law, William R. Thomas, Sr. and Joy D. Thomas, her brother-in-law, William R. Thomas, Jr. and Janet L. Thomas; and her beloved dog, Fritz.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years Michael A. Thomas of Elmira; her children, Amanda D. Thomas of Hampton, VA, Gregory J. Thomas of Atlanta, GA; her mother, Bertha E. Oppenheim of Elmira; her sister, Karen (Richard) Brown of Elmira; her brothers-in-law, Darrell (Bonnie) Thomas, Lou Thomas, her sisters-in-law, Diane (Brad) Lines, Karen Paro; her nieces and nephews, Keileen, Crystal, Jessica, Janet, Stephanie, Christopher, Mathew, Adam and Emma; grandfurbabies, Aiyana and Rosalind; and her dog, Maximus and her cat, Pedro.

Friends may call from 4-6 pm with a service to follow on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue in Elmira. Burial will take place on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 1 pm at Jackson Center Cemetery in Millerton, PA.
