Celia M. Shappee

Celia M. Shappee Age 87 of Elmira, NY passed into peace suddenly Sunday, April 7, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.Celia was the beloved daughter of the later Walter and Avis Heaxt Monks.She was born in Elmira on July 4, 1914.Surviving Celia are: daughter; Sandra (Michael) Martyniak of Elmira, NY, grandchildren; Carol and Joseph Kane, Michelle Martyniak, Scott Gush, Cheryl Gush, Sue and James Stuart, Wendy and Wayne Vaness, Lori and Michael Beard, Michael Page, 11 great grandchildren,sister; Irene Woughter of Elmira, NY, Hazel Stowe of VA, and close friends; Ellen and William O?Brian of Elmira. Celia was predeceased by: her loving husband; Leroy, son; Lynn Shappee, daughter; Sharon Page and grandson; Randy Gush.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904 Wednesday, April 10th, 2002 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm with funeral and committal services to be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 8:00pm. The Rev. Horace Stoddard will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY.Celia was a very active member of the Southport Seniors Center of Chapel Park. She loved the many trips she took with her friends and the many card games they shared. Euker and Pinochle being her games of choice. In the safety of her home Celia found much joy in knitting, and crocheting and various other crafts. She also found time to solve crossword puzzles. Celia loved the time she spent with her husband Leroy. Together they shared many hobbies and interests such as bowling and bowling banquets, and attending the Eagles Club for Celia?s card league and various functions at the American Legion.Celia also loved her family and all the gatherings they had.Especially close to her heart are her wonderful grandchildren and precious great-grandchildren.Anyone wishing may light a ?Candle of Remembrance? at www.olthof.com.
