Cathleen M. Smith

Cathleen "Cathy" M. "Cookie" Smith Age 62, of Southport, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center surrounded by her loving husband and her daughters. Cathy was born in Syracuse, NY to Ann (Murrock) Davis and the late Richard Gilchrist. In addition to her father, Cathy was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Lauren Gilchrist. She is survived by the light of her life, her grandson, Julian Gorel; her loving husband and best friend of 41 years, Ralph J. Smith; daughters, Melissa Smith, Megan Smith, and Andrea Owerbach; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Gorel; son-in-law, Stephen Owerbach; her siblings, Deborah (Matthew) Allen, Rick (Billie) Gilchrist, Leslie (Kevin) Loukopoulos, Lynda (Wayne) Nock; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Gary) Glapa and Yvonne (John) Bentley; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many close friends. Cathy was a dedicated Respiratory Therapist at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center for 37 years. Aside from work, Cathy was the family seamstress and mother, who took care of everyone's needs ahead of her own. She could always be counted on and her loss will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Funeral Services celebrating her life will follow the visitation at 5 pm.
