Carrie E. Edkin

Carrie E. Edkin, a native and resident of Elmira, NY passed away unexpectedly on November 1, 2024. She was 61 years old.

Carrie spent her life nurturing others, not only through decades of dedicated service as a CNA, but also in her personal life, where she was known to offer a mother’s love to just about anyone who needed it. She was a joyful and funny person who had been enjoying her retirement by reading, playing computer games, taking leisurely drives, and of course, napping. But by far, spending time with her husband and grandchildren was the highlight of her days.

She was preceded in death by: her parents Henry R. and Ellen (Staples) Bailey; and her brother Ken Bailey.

She is survived by: her beloved husband Edward Edkin; her daughters – Crystal Swartz and husband Toni, and Aimee Edkin and partner Chad Voorhees; her grandchildren – Bryson, Bailee, and Korbin Swartz; her brothers – Charles “Chuck” Bailey, and Donald Bailey and wife Donna; life-long friends Tim and Holly Roupp, and their children Justin and Jay; many in-laws; even more children and grandchildren she adopted and loved as her own throughout the years; and her precious grand-dog Carly.

The family would like to thank all of her colleagues at The Chemung County Nursing Facility and at The ARC of Chemung for the years of friendship that brought so much joy and purpose to her life.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and to her memorial service beginning at 4:00 PM at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904.

To celebrate her remarkable spirit, guests are invited to wear purple to her services.
