It’s always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish.
Betty L. Hoobler passed away on August 28 th , 2022 at Robert Packer Hospital at the age of 89. She was
born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on May 3 rd , 1933. Betty lived a long and beautiful life. To her grandchildren she was Grandma, Grandma Ma and Grandma Hoobie but her most adored title was “Ma.” Even in her final chapter those who so graciously cared for her knew her as “Ma.”
She was predeceased by her parents Arista and Cora Faye (Kurtz) Spotts, brother Elmer Spotts (Barb), sister Marion Strasburg (Rich) and brother Richard Spotts (Ronnie). Betty endured tremendous loss in her life including the love of her life Richard M. Hoobler (“Hoobie”) and her sons Roger and Richard “Ricky” Bellows. It was because of these difficult times that Betty was able to show her family how to put together the pieces and keep pressing on. When asked the standard “how are you today?” she would always smile brightly and say “Good! Doesn’t do you any good to be any other way!”
She is survived by her children Vickie Dickerson (Dale), Robert Bellows (Sissy) and Rodney Bellows (Luz), her stepdaughters Diana and Lisa.
Her grandchildren Tonya Craige, Amy Lorenz (Greg), Bradley Bellows (Katie), Joshua Bellows, Ashley
Loomis (Guy), Allen Dickerson, Cody Dickerson, Stephanie Bolt and several cherished great grandchildren.
Ma attended Troy High School and after starting her family she worked at Thatcher’s and Remington Rand for many years.
Ma was the heart of our family and we have so many beautiful memories of gathering in her home, playing Aggravation and Skip-Bo, and the hustle of the cooking in the kitchen with the race playing in the background.
For many years, you could find her and Hoobie at the Nascar Races rooting on their favorite driver #33.
Ma was legally blind for several years of her life and as technology advanced, she had a life changing eye surgery that allowed her to drive again. There was no stopping her! Her baby blue (car) took her to all the places she wanted to go, including the casino! She loved to travel. Her favorite trip was with her daughter to Arizona to visit her brother. It was because of her new independence, she was able to work at the Millerton Dandy on the State Line and was a familiar, smiling face to all those who passed through.
Ma was an animal lover and had many precious cats and dogs throughout the years. She would light up with excitement when she would spot a beautiful bird on her many birdfeeders and especially loved hummingbirds. She had a real talent for gardening and all of us have fond memories of sneaking sugar snap peas from her garden.
She will be missed and always loved.
