Smith, Bernice Congdon Sullivan Longtime resident of Gillett, PA Who has made her home with her daughter?s family in Spencer, NY for the last five and one half years went to her repose to await the calling of our Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2001. Born November 19, 1908 in Gillett, PA she was a daughter of the late Bert and Edna Queal Congdon . She was predeceased by her brother Edgar in 1942 and by two loving husbands, Eugene Sullivan of Candor, NY with whom she had four children and Leaman Smith of Gillett, being stepmother to his three daughters for 41 years. Surviving are; two sisters, Marie (Lynn) Updike of Gillett, PA, and Pauline (Bert) Avery of Cayuta, NY: also four children, Norman (Joyce) Sullivan of Candor, NY; Edna Jean (Robert) Molyneaux of Spencer, NY; Beverly Potter of Candor, NY and Shirley (Gary) Nagy of California. Three Stepdaughters, Arlene (Phil) Jennings of Monroeton, PA; Janice Smith of Phoenix, AZ and Vorene Stamp of Gillett, PA. 19 grandchildren and many, many great and great-great grandchildren.Bernice had a passion for flower gardening and left each home she had lovelier than when she came there. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 from 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 from 11 AM to 1 PM. The funeral and committal services will be held there Wednesday following visitation at 1 PM. Bernice?s grandson Rev. Jay Molyneaux will officiate along with Rev. Louis Newkirk assisting. Interment will be in the Gillett Cemetery, Gillett, PA at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to: Hospice Unit at Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905 in Bernice?s memory.
