JOHNSON, Benona R.(Ben)Age 82 Of Pine City, NY passed away Thursday, September 27, 2001 at St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira, NY. Ben was born May 30, 1919 the son of Ezra and Janey Metcalf Johnson. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: J. Daniel and Arlene Johnson, of Binghamton, NY, grandchildren: Michael D. Johnson and Mark D. (Catherine) Johnson all of Binghamton, NY. great grandchildren: Morgan E. Johnson and Samantha L. Johnson, special sister-in-law; Dorothy Johnson of Elmira, NY, several nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Ronald Hynes. Ben is also survived by Step Children: William(Debi) Jones of Canandaigua, NY, James (Debbie) Urbanski of Georgetown, MA, step grandchildren, Ryan Urbanski, Rene Urbanski, Laurie Jones, Julie Jones, Mathew Burgess and Lance Burgess. Ben was predeceased by his wife Jane L. Johnson and wife Elsie E. Johnson, brothers Stanley and William Johnson, Harold Coe, sisters Dora Smith and Katherine Rysewyk.Ben was a United States Marine Corp Veteran of WW II with the 4th Marine Division in the Pacific Campaign, and a recipient of the ?Purple Heart? during the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the D.A.V., the Marine Corp League, The Loyal Order of Moose Post #517 Elmira, NY , the American Legion Post #154 of Elmira Heights, NY and a top Classic League Bowler in the Elmira area for more than 25 years. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. on Monday, October 1, 2001 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with Funeral Service there Monday at 1:00 PM. The Reverend William Valet will officiate, followed by full military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Those wishing may make memorials to the Alzheimer?s Support Group, Chemung County Human Resources, PO Box 588, Elmira, NY 14902-0588 in Ben?s memory.
