Ashur R. Terwilliger

September 7, 1937 — December 18, 2022

LOWMAN – Ashur R. Terwilliger, 85, of Lowman, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022.  Born on September 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Edgar and Maude (Dibble) Terwilliger.  Ashur was a 1955 graduate of Elmira Free Academy.

On October 6, 1956, he married the love of his life, Margaret J. VanOstrand and they would share 66 glorious years together.

For more than 50 years in public service, Ashur was the Director of the Chemung County Farm Bureau and served on the Town of Baldwin Planning Board.  He was also a member of the Chemung County Fair Planning Board.  He founded the first oil and gas coalition in the area and worked for the Town of Baldwin Highway Department, eventually becoming superintendent.  Ashur’s caring nature and love for children inspired him to set up Lowman Little League Baseball.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret J. Terwilliger of Lowman; his sons, Christopher Terwilliger and his wife, Elizabeth of Warren Center, PA, Ross Terwilliger of Lowman, Ashur Terwilliger of Lowman; his 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
