Was born April 26, 1933 in Laceyville, PA the son of the late James and Katherine (Place) Frantz went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 76. His sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Ed Newhart along with several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins predeceased him. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Doris M. (Soper); much loved children: daughter, Sherl Frantz Klassa and her adored children, Katherine and Sarah all of Dearborn Heights, MI; Curtis Frantz with fiancée Patty Hupalo of Grahamsville, NY; aunts, Thelma Scott of Arizona; Myrle Knapp of Elmira; uncle, John Conrad of Wellsburg; sister-in-law, Irene Johnson of North Carolina; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many friends. Gary proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1952-1956 and then 6 years in the Reserves. He retired from the New York State Department of Corrections as Lieutenant after 32 years of dedicated service. His family and friends will be gathering on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Elmira Christian Center 235 East Miller Street Elmira, NY from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. The Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Frantz Military Honors following the visitation at 3 PM. A Memorial Service honoring his life will follow with Reverend Brian Harris and Reverend Rob Wuethrich to officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Elmira Christian Academy c/o Music Department 235 E. Miller Street Elmira, NY 14904. A celebration will continue after the services with food, fellowship and many stories, just as Gary would want us all to do. Have so many good memories of Gary and family in our visits East. Especially our golf outings!! We will miss him so much.

Gary loved life and was loved by all!! Wish I could have had one more round of golf with Gary or a trip to the Flea Market. Not to mention a funny story or two. Will miss those special videos also.DKY

I have so many awesome memories of Uncle Gary... He was so kind to me... always doing something for me & my family! Cooking a special dish, giving gifts.. he was so thoughtful! He is and always will be missed but his love is in our hearts forever!
